LETTER TO EDITOR
Kevin Jennings' selective tolerance
Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Kevin Jennings' Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) sponsors Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) student clubs, which promote gay-affirming events while opposing any ex-gay information to youth ("At the president's pleasure," Editorial, Sept. 28). Some of these clubs are led by gay teachers who seem to monopolize information presented to our children and therefore resist anything that competes with their ideology. Instead of presenting all of the facts on sexual orientation in a fair and balanced manner, GLSEN encourages confused and impressionable youths to identify immediately as "gay."
GLSEN also promotes tolerance for people who change their gender (transgenders) even as it opposes tolerance for those who change their sexual orientation (ex-gays). Will Mr. Jennings, as a public official representing the Obama administration, now work on behalf of all Americans, including the ex-gay community? Or will Mr. Jennings continue to maintain that ex-gay organizations and information have no place in our public schools?
